Sometimes you really need to think about what you pray for. Brett and I have been making ends meet with our budget for the past few months with the hope that I would eventually find a graphic design job here in Albany. After at least a dozen interviews, we finally had something positive happen. Actually, several positive things. For me, it's almost too many positive things.

I went for an interview at a local software company call MM Hayes. They are looking for a graphic designer that would take over all of their print-based marketing, website and newsletters. Unfortunately, they do not have a marketing department, so I would be on my own as far as marketing and promotions goes. I interviewed with them, they really liked my portfolio, they were impressed with my masters degree and offered me the job not an hour after the interview. WOW. The pay is great, and it would be a salary position with a lot of responsibilities but with a lot of room to learn and grow. The company owners, which are a father and his three sons, seem like really easy-going but very driven people. I know I would fit in to their office dynamic well, but I am hesitant to take a position that has so many responsibilities and very little guidance.

On the flip side, I just had my second interview with Trans World Entertainment. This job was my goal before being offered the position at the software company. The position is a low-level graphic design gig, and there is a group of three graphic designers and one senior graphic designer that work together in the visual merchandising department. It would be a great job in a large company, which would be safe. The responsibilities would be less, and the project that they are working on sounds really interesting. They are starting from ground up and totally redesigning the interiors of all the F.Y.E. music stores, so it would be the perfect combination of graphic and interior design. Very fun. The pay is hourly and is less than the software company, but it's still good. I'm hoping to hear from them by the beginning of next week.

THEN, the freelance gig that I was waiting to hear about with the motorcycle company finally came through. They called me yesterday and wanted me to start full time this month, continuing on as part time for the next few months after that. If they had only called me when they said they would, I could have worked and completed that job by now. ARGH! So I turned down the job and referred them to a graphic design business in Glens Falls, where I've been doing some contract freelance. Good news is that the girls from Glens Falls got the gig, and I will probably be working with them on the designs, so I'll still have a hand in the work. A printing company from Troy called me yesterday to interview for a graphic design job there, and I had to turn them down too. Everyone must be mentally finished with the holidays and is now scrambling to fill positions that they were suppose to have filled a long time ago.
Good news is that I will have a job by February 1...I just don't know which one. Brett and I are going to make one last trip to Indiana before we both become tied to Albany and our jobs for a long time. Plus, we're still going to be able to make that trip to Colorado and go skiing with Sarah Bauer and her boyfriend Chris. For now, we're thinking and waiting and trying to make the best decision for both Brett and myself. Things will be changing quickly by next month! Please keep us in your prayers!
