Happy Halloween!

I wasn't too terribly motivated to get a Halloween costume for Sophia. We weren't planning on taking her trick-or-treating. Who takes a 10-month-old around on a cold night to collect candy? She can't eat any of it, right?

So, about a month ago, I hit the $1 bargain bin at Target. That area is just a treasure trove. I love it! I found this little jack-o-lantern shirt and matching socks, and I made the "pumpkin" hat with the leaf. I took some pictures of Sophia in our front yard leaves this afternoon. Too cute!

I don't think those belong there...

Sophia's hands were freezing cold, so Brett took her socks off her feet and put them on her hands. Took her a little while to figure out what he did and how to get them off!

She's a pro at Cheerios

Look at those pincher fingers working. She should go pro or something. In a few of these pictures, she was trying to hide from me.

My big sis's little baby

Okay, so he's not so little. Alright all you moms out there. Everyone give a great big pat on the back to my sister. She's a trooper. (drumroll.....) Joseph Augustine Scott was born on October 17, weighing in a 10 lbs 12.6 oz and measuring 21.5 inches. He's a healthy kiddo! Honestly, bravo Carla. You're one tough cookie.

Sophia and I are flying home on Friday of this coming week to see the fam and snuggle up with the new baby. Joseph's baptism is next Sunday, and my brother and I were asked to be the godparents. So, OF COURSE I have to make a trip back to Indiana for that big event! Brett is flying in that next Monday, and we're going to look at houses in Noblesville. We're hunting for a great neighborhood, since we can't really get a house until next year. Let's hope the hunt goes well.

I'm as tall as...8 rolls of Bounty?

Brett and Sophia ran to Target today while I did some work on my computer. They came home with, yes, 8 rolls of paper towels. Seriously, this package is as big as Sophia. I had to take a picture of her with it. I just thought it was so funny that she could be dwarfed by something as simple as paper towels.

And check out those pictures of her teeth! She's getting her middle left top tooth AND the one right next to it. No, not the other middle tooth. I'm talking about the one to the left of the left top tooth. Weird. She's a little lopsided right now. I hope that other middle tooth pops through soon. She looks funny now.

Mmmm...

With teeth comes big-people food. Sophia's mastered crackers, cheese cubes, and Cheerios, so we've branched out in to other areas. She's been working on peas and carrots lately. She likes little pieces of bread and especially likes Stove Top stuffing. Tonight, I thought I'd try something that's a different consistency. Mashed potatoes might take a while. She just squished them in her hands for a good ten minutes. What is this white stuff on my fingers! Get it off!

Milestones

We've hit several baby-milestones in the past few days. Here goes.

Sophia has officially caught her first full-blown cold. Dripping nose and everything. Ugh. She had the sniffles pretty bad when she was about 4 weeks old, but this is a real cold. Poor thing sounds like a washing machine when she nurses. She's handling it well though. She's been taking real naps and everything.

Speaking of sleeping, Sophia slept through the night last night for the first time. YAY! 8:45 pm - 6:30 am. I felt like I had slept forever. It was great.

Finger food is has been taking off. Some of the favorites - Cheerios, cheese chunks, peas, carrots, crackers, and the favorite...these little biscuit cookies that Brett gets from the flight attendants at work. Yum...

Eating should be getting easier for her because more teeth have broken through. Sophia has her two bottom teeth, and now her top left and the one to the left of that have broken through. I hope her top right one comes through soon or else she'll look a little lopsided.

We caught her standing up on her own the other day. She saw herself on the fireplace glass, let go of her little scooter that was holding her up, and waved at her reflection. When she doesn't think about it, Sophia can actually stand up on her own.

I'll keep everyone up-to-date on Sophia's progress!

Our trip to Boston

This past weekend, we all went to Boston for a wedding. My former boss at the Boston University Fitness and Recreation Center got married. It was such a great wedding! I love seeing people so happy.

It was a really fun trip, but boy, was it a long one. We were only gone two days, but it felt like forever. Brett almost wasn't able to make the trip with Sophia and me. His work shipped him off to fly to Buffalo that morning, so he couldn't drive with us to the hotel outside of the city. We had to drive separately, and he ended up meeting us at the wedding. Thankfully, Sophia slept the entire car ride to Boston, which made my drive a lot less stressful. I spent the entire morning packing everything, and the drive was relaxing compared to all the running around that I did in the morning. It's amazing how much STUFF you need when you travel with a baby. And we only stayed one night!

The ceremony was gorgeous. Kris and her fiance (now husband), Dennis, were just beaming. They got married on the grounds of an inn, under a grove off trees on the banks of a pond. The leaves had changed colors by that time too, so the surrounding area was beautiful. I shot a bunch of pictures of the ceremony. They are in the posting above.

Their reception was in a big tent right near the pond. I completely flaked during my prep time at the hotel, and I forgot Sophia's food in the room. Nice...and it was at least a 20 minute drive back to the hotel. So, Sophia learned how to eat table food that night. We filled her up on crackers and apple pieces, and she liked the rolls and pasta alright. Thankfully, I did remember the Cheerios and yogurt bites, so she ate something other than carbs that evening.

We got to visit with a lot of people that I used to work with and hadn't seen in while. My friend, Sam, who worked under Kris during the same time I did, ended up bunking up with us, so we had some good quality visiting there. She lives all the way out in Washington state, and we really don't get to talk a lot. Sophia just loved her! She pretty much went right to Sam when she walked in the door of the hotel room! I was so surprised! They must be kindred spirits deep down.

So the wedding was on Friday night, and we had a great time. The next day, we packed up everything and drove to a T stop to take the train in to the city for the day. We ended up walking around the Boston Public Gardens, and Sophia sat on the duck statues in the park. It was a crisp but sunny day, and the city was peppered with people and strollers. I never realized how difficult it was to ride the subway with a stroller. Brett and I carried that thing up and down stairs more times than I can count! So, we walked around the gardens and the Common. Then, we went out to Long Wharf and ate lunch at Legal Seafood. YUMMMM... We hopped back on the train, got off at Arlington, and walked Newbury Street with EVERYONE ELSE in the city. It was packed! Sophia fell asleep on the walk down Newbury and stayed asleep on the train ride out of town. All that fresh air knocked her out.

We ended up stopping at a mall just outside of town to let Sophia crawl around in a play area before we hit the road for good. Poor girl had been in either a stroller, carseat or high chair the entire day, so she was happy to get out and speed crawl for a while. We hit the road around 6 and caravaned back to Albany, Brett in his car and Sophia and me in the other. We were all pooped when we got home. All-in-all, it was a great trip, and well worth the effort.

Quilts

It feels good to finally finish projects. I wrapped up two quilts this month. The first one is a quilt that I made for my sister for her new baby. She's due in about two weeks, so I had to finish it and ship it off to her before the little one came along. She just unwrapped it yesterday, so I can now post pictures of it without spoiling the surprise for her! It's my first official quilt, and with the help of the ladies in my quilting group, I finished it just in time.

The second "quilt" isn't really a quilt. It's a crochet blanket that is made of separate colored crochet blocks. I started this one, oh, about a year before Sophia was born. Yeah...it's taken me a while. I completed this one last Thursday, and just in time, too. I gave it to my friend, Kris, whose wedding we went to this past Friday. Cut that one a bit close!

Belly!

Sophia has officially discovered her belly and can rub it when asked. Now all we need to do it teach her how to pat her head at the same time...
