Brett and Sophia went shopping on Friday while I was singing at the confirmation mass at church. They came home with a bunch of daisies and a gift wrapped in what we called "Sophia wrapping" - it was a gift wrapped up in one of her receiving blankets. Now I have a book called "The little big book for moms." It's full of stories, poetry, rhymes, songs, fairy tales - all those nursery rhymes that you SHOULD know if you're a mom and you don't. It was perfect. Sophia and I read a portion of Charlotte's Web today. If a 5-month-old can be enamored, she was.
I've decided that garage-saling is my new favorite hobby. Brett left for work on Saturday and is coming home tomorrow. I decided that Sophia and I were going to take advantage of the good weather and hit some garage sales. Inspiration came from the neighborhood sale that I hit in Aaron and Laurie's neighborhood when I was home for our last visit. So I looked up all the neighborhood sales online, mapped out my route, packed a bottle of water and my baby carrier for Sophia, and we hit the sales. Didn't find too much, but we had a good time. Fresh air and exercise. I think I might keep this up. It might be Sophia's and my Saturday date.
So my first mother's day went pretty darn good. Well, I should actually start with last night, since that's when Sophia gave me her gift. I fed her last night at 8pm, just like normal, and she completely zonked out. It's rare that I lay her down in her crib and she doesn't open her eyes to look at me or try to roll over. It was like putting a brick to sleep. Zonked. Completely. I went to bed at 10:30 and woke up at 5:45. 5:45!!!!!! That's sleeping through the night for me. Usually, I wake up around 2 or 3 in the morning, even when Sophia is still asleep. She usually wakes up 5 minutes after I wake up during the night. But this 8:30 pm-5:45 am stretched was definitely a HUGE first. So I got her up this morning at 5:45, changed a VERY full diaper, and fed her again. She fell back asleep at 7:15, and so did I. We both woke up at 9. HEAVEN.
We packed up this morning and made a run to Target. I bought some more baby food while I was there, so when we got home, I broke out the peaches. So, found out Sophia likes peaches. REALLY like peaches. I thought the apple sauce was a hit, but apparently peaches have moved to the top of the list. She's still working on the whole eating thing. She keeps trying to suck on the spoon like she's nursing. More gets into her mouth than on her bib, so she must be eating it!
After lunch, I parked Sophia in her swing because she was acting tired. I clipped coupons from the Sunday paper, and she watched me until she fell asleep. I decided to lay down on the couch and catch a few zzzzzs.......almost two hours later, we woke up. NICE. Slept through the night AND I got a nap. Could this be the best mother's day ever?
I hope that this sleeping through the night thing keeps up. I'm not sure if Sophia will do as well tonight. She felt hot to me tonight while I was changing her in to her pjs, so I took her temp. The thermometer read 101.8. Eesh. I gave her some baby Tylenol and promptly put her to bed. I have a feeling Sophia is starting to get teeth, so that would explain the fever. We'll see!
Brett gets home tomorrow night. YEAH! Sophia and I do alright while he's gone for work, but it's awful nice to have him home. I need to get to work on some freelance projects, and it's especially nice to have him here to lend a hand while I'm trying to juggle Sophia and client calls and emails.
Need to go to bed. 'Night to all the happy moms out there.
