Yes, we're still alive

Yes, we are, in fact, still alive. Things have been seriously busy lately. Let's see if I can just bullet point things. That will make this blog posting easier.

THE BIG MOVE
So as some of you may know, Brett and I have been hunting for a house in Indiana. When baby #2 decided to announce it's coming, our casual looking turned into serious hunting, which our realtor was probably thankful for since we've technically been looking since last summer.

We all flew back to Indiana on Jan 30, and the next day we did serious house-hunting. This was, like, our fifth time back to the Midwest, and I was so tired of coming for weekend trips and having to fly back to NY. So we left Sophia with my in-laws and headed to Indy where we went to see 11 (yes I said 11) houses in one day. We hit gold. The LAST HOUSE we saw was perfect - 3 bed, 2 full bath, vaulted great room, eat-in kitchen, 4-season sunroom, extended 2-car garage - 1600 square feet of perfectness. It had only been on the market for a week, and we jumped on it. We had an offer in to the selling agent on Jan 31.

Brett flew back to Albany, NY to go back to work, and I stayed in IN to make sure things went well with the house. They counter offered, we countered, they countered, and we had a final price by the following Wednesday. We had an inspection that Saturday, which was the day before we left town. Everything went pretty smoothly.

THEN we hit the packing. Brett, Sophia and I flew back to Albany on Feb 7. We had ONE WEEK to pack up our townhouse and drive everything to Indiana. Why move so quickly, you say? Brett had limited time off, and it just so happened that over the weekend of Feb 14, he had three days off. We wouldn't see three days off until about April, so it was now or never with the move. Brett was working all week, but thankfully it was only reserve a few days. He and some of his pilot buddies helped move big furniture and pack the moving van. I had friends come every day of the week to help pack boxes. It was really something to see it all come together. So thank you Lynn, Diane, Kathy, Lisa, Steve, Andy, Andrew, and whoever else I can't remember. We couldn't have done it without any of you. I'm so thankful to have wonderful quality friends. That's one thing I will miss about Albany. That, and the mall, but the friends are WAY UP on there on a short list.

Brett's dad flew out to Albany on Fri, Feb 13 so he and Brett could drive the moving truck and the Pontiac back to IN. Sophia and I hopped on a flight to Indianapolis that morning. The whole day was a comedy of errors. We didn't get to bed on Friday until about 12:30 in the morning. I was stressing out about mopping the floors and finishing laundry. Sophia had a late nap that day, so she had stayed up until 10:30 that night. I thought for sure that she would sleep through the night despite the drippy nose she had. My thoughts were wrong. She woke up at 1:45 am and didn't go back to sleep until 3:45. My alarm was set at 4:15 so I could get up, take a shower, and hop on a 6:15 flight with her. So I got just shy of 2 hours of sleep. Got to the airport to find out that the flight Sophia and I were trying to get on was completely booked and there were no other chances for us to fly out that day. So it was get on the flight, or drive the 14 hours with the guys. Thankfully, one of Brett's first officers was riding on the same flight. THIS WONDERFUL MAN flew in the jumpseat in the cockpit so that Sophia and I could get on the flight. Andy, Brett totally owes you a beer. Sophia was an angel on the flights. She slept pretty much the entire time. We were in Indy by 10:30 am in Saturday. The guys had a rough start too. The poor moving truck must have gotten too cold that night because they had to call a towing company to jump the truck's battery. They wanted to get out of town around 8 am and didn't end up leaving until 11 or so. The hope to get the entire drive done in one day was shot, and they ended up spending the night in Ohio.

Sunday, Feb 15 brought some more excitement. Brett and his dad rolled in to Westfield at my friend Sarah's townhouse around noon. Sarah and her hubby Chris let us use the garage of their townhouse (which is on the market, by the way, if anyone is interested) as a storage shed for the next month. YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME. We packed every last square inch of that garage. It's funny to think that your whole life can fit in to a one-car garage, isn't it? Brett and I returned the moving truck to Penske and vowed never to move in the winter again. We passed by our realtors office to sign paperwork, but they were already closed. Bummer.

So Sophia and I have settled in to my parents' house for the next month, which is really funny since all of my siblings have moved in with them over the past two years while they were all house-hunting. What's really funny is that my parents just got rid of my sister's family about a month ago, and POOF here we move in to the guest room. It's a revolving door at my parents' place.

We close on the new house on March 20, which we are trying to change to March 18 due to Brett's crazy work schedule. Brett successfully got his flying base changed to Dulles, which is a much easier commute to and from Indy because it's only one leg. For now, he's still working in Albany for the rest of March and is "home" about two nights a week. It's going to be a tough month, but it's only one month in the whole scheme of things.

I just found a new doctor and am starting up with OB appointments on March 3. I am 21 weeks and counting, and this kid is already jumping around in there. He/She already keeps me up at night with their 12 am dance routines. It's just great. Sophia is trying to settle in. I think she keeps wondering if we're going to get on a plane again. WE'RE NOT!!! If I never heard the words "lap child" again, I would be a happy person.

So needless to say, it's been a crazy few weeks. I can't believe we finally found a house. It's all very surreal. And I can't wait to get those keys and start painting walls. Not only am I a motivated person, but I'm also in a nesting mode preparing for baby #2. That's a dangerous combination.

For now, enjoy the pictures. We took these when we saw the house a second time, so THIS IS NOT OUR FURNITURE. Bleck. I hope that we can do better than this. It may take us a while, but I think we'll make this place a nice home.
