It's been a while

So it's been a while since I posted anything, which explains why there are four more new posts after this one. I've been a little busy.

I think we've hit our stride with the whole having two kids thing. I'm very confident in handling life while Brett is gone for work. Claire is a champ. I'm so glad we had her second and not first. She's such a good baby. Not to say that Sophia wasn't a good baby. Sophia was just harder - she didn't sleep all that much, she cried a lot, she constantly wanted to be held and engaged in something. Claire is pretty much the opposite of that. She's such a content baby. When she's done being held, she'll try to wiggle her way out of your arms. She's happy to sit in her little bouncy seat and watch everything happen in the house. She SLEEPS. It's great. Sometimes, she will sleep 8-9 hours straight at night. It's wonderful. Sophia didn't sleep for that long until she was 10 months old. Sophia still wakes up in the middle of the night at least 3 or 4 times a week. And if Claire does wake up at night, she doesn't wake up screaming. She just lays there and coos until someone picks her up. Honestly the happiest baby ever in the middle of the night. It makes getting up worth it.

We still haven't moved Claire out our room. I'm sort of tentative to do so since she doesn't cry when she wakes up. Will I even be able to hear her coos over the monitor in the middle of the night? Plus, we haven't painted her room or fixed the crib that she will be using. I think that might be a project for next week.

At Claire's three-month appointment, she clocked in at 15 lbs and 10 oz and was 24.5 inches long. She's a beast. Maybe that's why she sleeps so well at night. She has enough body fat to keep her warm and comfy. Plus, she sucks her thumb, which probably helps her go back to sleep if she does wake up. Sophia was Claire's size at a little over 6 months. I think Claire is giving her a run for her money.

Sophia has been talking my ear off lately. She's starting to talk in sentences now. Just yesterday she asked me, "Where's my shirt?" She likes to stand in front of you and "sing" in to anything that resembles a microphone. Then she bows after she's finished. She uses colored pencils and "plays the drums" on the glider ottoman in our bedroom. She makes funny faces and noises at Claire, which makes Claire burst out in giggles. She likes parks but will ONLY go down the slide ONLY if there aren't any other kids playing on it. I guess Brett was that bashful in public when he was little too. Sophia has also learned and is good at using the word "no" and "mine." And so begins the terrible twos.

Can't say that I'm looking forward to the weather getting colder. I really liked being able to take the girls for walks and play in the backyard. It helps Sophia to expend some energy during the day so she will sleep through the night. So I've decided to check out the Noblesville Library story time for toddlers. Hopefully that will be a good thing to keep up with during the winter. Our first story time is tomorrow. Let's hope it goes well.

Lots of things to do in the coming weeks. Brett has some time off next week to finish building his company's ALPA website. I'm hoping to tackle painting Claire's room while he is off. We also bought this dresser and nightstand for Sophia off of a couple on Craigslist, and we need to finish stripping paint off both pieces. We started last week, ran out of stripper, and decided that it looks like we are scraping off green gum. This dresser has at least 4 coats of paint on it (one coat being this ugly bright kelly green color), but it's SO pretty and solid wood. It will last for a long time. We just have to do a lot more stripping and some major sanding afterward.

Can you believe that Christmas is only a month and a half away??? Holy cow. Lots to do before then. Everyone is getting homemade gifts this year. The budget is tight now since we are paying for medical bills for Claire, so there is going to be lots of sewing and baking for Christmas. My favorite kinds of gifts, personally, but it's tough to get everything accomplished with two little ones. We also have Sophia's second birthday in December, so that will be exciting. I've already decided we're doing a Mickey Mouse theme. Sophia just loves Mickey, and I'm borrowing a Mickey Mouse cake form from a friend of mine. Should be a good time.

I'm going to try to make a better effort to take pictures. I haven't taken too many over the past month. With everything that's going on, I should have some good stories in the coming weeks. For now, here are the latest shots.

My sister!

Sophia passed out.

5 minutes later, she was doing this.

The girls in their matching Colts shirts that I embroidered.

How can we possibly live without technology?

Interesting wording on the sticker here. Sometimes, I wish I could slap something like this across her mouse and NOT remove it.

Watching Saturday morning cartoons.
